Chartering option not attractive

Updated: Nov 13, 2021

We called Richard Kouvaras in Greece yesterday. He is a busy man, but admitted that the figures for Greek Sails to buy back/charter our yacht didn't look too appetising for us or for them. We are not surprised, as we would only let them have the yacht for 8 or 9 weeks, which is much, much less than other standard finance/charter deals. To be honest, I'm not too upset about this, as I don't want a lot of dinks put in the boat from the charter crews.

We assumed at that point that Richard would pull out completely, but no, he pressed ahead with going through our detailed spec. So he is still, gladly, willing to buy the boat through his Greek agent and then fit it out for us in Antibes. And he still feels we can get a delivery from Beneteau in December or January! We await the £numbers later this week!

My concern now is whether to pay VAT or to do the deal ex-VAT. The issue with the latter is, post-Brexit, how long do we have to clear EU waters? Richard thinks that it may be 6 weeks, but in reality we don't know.
